For the past month, I have been a member of the online Orton Gillingham Academy facilitated by Marisa Bernard. After being introduced to the scientifically-researched OG Teaching Philosophy while earning Special Education and Reading Specialist certifications, I explored the opportunities of several OG training courses. Last summer this specific program was recommended to me by a colleague at a Las Vegas DIBELS workshop. I am very pleased with the comprehensiveness, online convenience and cost effectiveness of this program. In addition, I am extremely impressed with the level of individual service provided by Ms. Bernard. Her care and concern is demonstrated through her immediate responses to questions and periodical updates throughout the modules, in order to keep up-to-date with the latest scientific and psychological research. Most online materials are offered in both PDF and Word formats; this allows a teacher, parent or tutor to make any wanted changes to shared documents. The OG philosophy emphasizes utilizing data analysis from assessments, in order to prescribe multi-sensory literacy instructional lessons tailored to every learner’s unique strengths and opportunities to grow. A lifetime discussion board is offered through Facebook where connections and diverse perspectives are shared with colleagues all over the world. Israel, Pakistan, Canada, Australia, Thailand, India and of course, the United States are just some examples of the opportunities provided to share information and ask questions. According to Ms. Bernard’s Teaching Philosophy: “If we truly want to make a difference in the lives of those with learning differences, we must not be exclusive, but rather work together as a team to truly make a difference.” Come join our global team of lifelong learners “Decode the Dimensions of Dyslexia” apparent in most struggling readers!
